Raid Experience SSC/TK/Hyjal

Guild History The Dark Allegiance - My first raiding guild in TBC, an outstanding group of people but I had taken leave for spring vacation and when I had return the majority of the main raiders had left including many of my closer friends, I stayed for a couple of weeks before realizing that there was no more progression to come.

Digital Heroes - Definitely not my favourite guild I had ever been in, many people were very unfriendly towards eachother on a daily basis. A little too much drama for me. It ended up breaking into two different guilds in the end due to the two leaders of the guild fighting frequently: Digital Heroes and Iron Knights. I decided to join neither in the end and gave up World of Warcraft for a few months.

Acknowledgment of agreement to our rules and times I agree to Damage Done's rules and raid times.

Preparedness for the next scheduled raid, unless stated here I'm ready to start running at any time.

Reason(s) for applying I've always been a person who strives to reach end-game content and frankly it really gets to me if I don't. I feel as though I haven't been given the opportunity to do so and know that in Damage Done being a respectable and well-known raiding guild I'd have my chance to work at it.

Final Thoughts, why you would be a good addition to Damage Done Since my experience does not match those of most players in Damage Done (clearing BT and fighting through Sunwell), and neither does my gear now or pre-wotlk compare, I could only put it simply as I am sure that my dedication, battle awareness, attitude to raiding and my willingness to reach the top will be a great addition to this guild.

First few things that come to mind are:

1. Stats are pretty low. Low hit, low hate, low spl dmg. Though you did mention your current gear not being BT / SWP gear you are well below the average gearing of our raid members.

2. Lack of enchants. Granted that you're currently upgrading gear, it is still pretty important to be fully enchanted or provide a good reason for this not being the case and a sufficient reason will be hard to offer when applying to a progressive raiding guild concerning this.

3. FSW Boots. /boggle

I am not an officer nor am I a mage (you should see my scrubtastic mage on Lightninghoof though XD) but thought I would mention this as politely as possible since you seem like a decent person based on your app =)

Thanks for the quick reply, I'll get on it with the enchants and should be picking up a new dagger and offhand which should bring me to 1402sp, hopefully with full enchants I'll be near 1500.

This mage spec goes into arcane for spell impact for 6% increased dmg as well was focus magic to increase crit chance by myself and a party member, I prefer to have another mage and I cast focus magic on ourselves to get a larger amount of crit bonus. The rest of the spec is a simple Deep Fire. My usual spell rotation would be to pop a living bomb on the target, cast put up the scorch debuff and whenever I can throw in fireball, when hot streak procs it's an instant pyroblast and rinse and repeat, keeping living bomb up as much as possible. Mage armor is also an important asset to keep mana flow constant.

While sure, you make valid points, your spec will never outdps a frostfire-based spec(in this patch at least). also, not taking up elemental precision puts you at about 1/2 of the hit cap, max'ing hit would be the biggest dps upgrade for you, basic mage 101, hit cap > your life. you also haven't replaced a single gem/enchant since you hit 80, cept the chest one. i see neither your tailoring or enchanting are high enough levels to benefit you.

seems to me like you havent done/seen the theorycrafting on wotlk mages, know little about maging, and could never have gotten into the guild when t6 was around, so you're seeing 80 as a new gate, which it could be if you prove you're not an idiot.

That being said, all of the points raised by Amal are 100% valid. This spec has been shown to be dated, and does not compete with a pure FF build in any scenario. Please provide a link to the wowhead.com talent builder. While we have a fairly good idea what your spec is, "fairly good" remains insufficient.

I also share Dimidréas' concerns about your gear. You seem like a smart guy, so you probably realize that by applying to our guild you are starting several steps behind square one (due to your levels of gear and experience). Now I'm still willing to give you a shot, simply because I value adaptability and intelligence over purples and ilevel, but you have an incredibly high bar to clear. First, I want to see how you reply to Amal's "suggestions." After that we'll have to see where things go.

Amal you're definitely right about my spell hit, I'm well aware of it being a major part of successful mage dps. I know this is old knews, but I felt like my inability to head into end-game during TBC was not due to my lack of class knowledge, but more to just being barred off by gear limitations and just the plain difficulty of finding a well oiled raiding team when everyone seems to be full of your class haha. I'll take all the points you've made and wouldn't mind if you'd actually help me out just become an overall better mage, any information about my class is accepted here (I really would like to become one of the best, if not the best ).
I just wanted to state/ask about my lack of crit being a major reason I haven't been in the FFB build, I was originally FFB-specced but I just did not seem to have the crit to make FFB useful at the time, I have a little bit of a gear upgrade though, and could possibly pull it off now? If you'd like I would respec immediately to see it's effectiveness in a heroic and test it out.

Haha I use Mage Armor depending on the situations, most single-target boss fights can be done with Molten Armor.

You shouldn't have even cast it back then!

Well, I just feel the 50% mana regen while casting is very useful for the fire spec, particularly in a raid environment where fights can last quite a while.

unless your ret pally and all your spriests die if you go oom you're doing it very, very wrong. We have mana gems, mana pots, evocation, BE's have arcane torrent, there are so many ways to prevent you from going oom if you cast mage armor when about to go onto a boss the raid you're with is better off without you because the chances you dont know something else pretty damn important is pretty high.

Alright, so after some careful consideration (and pants-on-head ranting by Amal) we are going to respectfully decline your app. Lacking both raiding experience and gear is forgivable, continuing to try and defend points that were annihilated years ago in a multitude of forums (usually under posts titled "mage 101") is not.
