| Any thoughts? CBS and CNN say Biden won. My interpretation is that Palin won on style overall, but not by much considering how vulnerable Biden looked at times about the economy and his personal history. However, Palin completely fell flat on anything other than rehearsed talking points. She looked very razor-thin on Israel and foreign policy, but had a few good laughs and looked friendly.
Interestingly enough, I heard something that said most people said she did a great job, but didn't necessarily cross the threshold required as most people didn't say they were voting GOP.
My guess: If style was important, Sarah Palin wins. If viewers were looking for substance, Biden cleans house. We'll see what the polls say.

| Personally, even if my opinion has no strength after watching it I thought Palin's side was a little more effective. She seemed to often prove Biden's points wrong on his ideas of McCain's policies. Not that I know all that much about politics but I watched about 25-30 minutes of it and it seemed heavily sided towards Palin. | |

| I heard that most places are calling it a tie. The question is is a tie good enough for McCain while he is behind in the polls?
P.S. also she screwed up on a lot of numbers (soldiers in Iraq) and like PB said always took it back to some rehearsed talking point.

| I mean some might consider me a bit bias, I don't know why, but she was a fucking JOKE to me. Half the time she would just ramble this jumbled up bunch of phrases about tax reform, job creation and reigning spending when it had nothing to do with the question or as rebuttal. All the hoaky "aww ya'knowah" language doesn't do anything for me and I live in a part of the country where wearing cowboy boots and hats isn't a costume. I thought Obama killed it the first time and Biden killed it this time. Of course I'm sort of a fact-oriented kind of guy which will lead to my opinion not always being universally shared. | |

| Another thing, I can't stand how she talks like a kindergarden teacher reading My Pet Goat to her students. She makes me want to throw things at the TV when she wrinkles her nose and uses that fucking tone. I'm not 5 years old, don't talk to me like I am, especially about real shit.
If I hear Sarah Palin try to make a point by stating that John McCain is simply known as a maverick and that its a ticket of mavericks who are going to be all mavericky on the government because mavericks are the bestest, I'm going to puke. Not even going to the degree of saying in what areas he is a maverick but just stating that he is known as one as if that alone speaks for what he is going to do for this country. Give me a fucking break.

| I'll ask the same question I did with the Presidential Debate; Can we find a Candidate who answers the actual questions posed by the moderator? | |

| Fair enough question although the debates are not usually a heavily dictated conversation and more often than not candidates will use their time to get across points they didn't have time to or what to respond with. I thought Biden did a good job of both answering the questions but making sure he got the last word on certain topics like energy and Afghanistan policy. She reverted to stock answers and catch phrases that were out of context which I thought was distracting, which may have been its intent. | |

| I mostly agree with Galt's sentiments, but was looking at it from the lens of Joe Six-Pack. Ultimately, I now feel she'll look good to the base and even worse to the opposition. So far, moderates appear to have been looking for substance over style as they're rating Biden the winner. The general idea is she just looked rehearsed and not really fluid and the folksy thing got old fast. C'mon, highlighting you've been a national figure for 5 weeks isn't really a good idea when people doubt you're ready.
I also read a good analysis that said because she had to stick to her talking points, Biden was able to frequently answer the questions posed, and then move off script extemporaneously to attack Bush/McCain. Palin had no such flexibility outside of her prepared remarks.

I am familiar enough with political debates to answer my own question but I took issue with both Obama and Palin, in their respective debates, reverting to their cues rather than focusing on the issue at hand. Interestingly enough I thought both Palin and Biden(since this was their only chance at debate) had quite a bit more to gain(than the presidential nominees) in their debate by controlling the tempo and strategically interjecting their stock answers into it. Palin, I thought, failed miserably and lacked any fluidity in her answers. Biden was far more savvy in his placement of "stock answers" and seemed to get his points in w/o disrupting the flow of the debate.

| Yeah, when she out right says "I'm not going to answer the questions like the moderator or you(Biden) want me to" it was pretty clunky.
Oh, and Sarah Palin, stop winking at me. I don't think you're hot and no, I'm not going to call you.

| I'd call her if I wasn't married. Total MILF. I figure if she's got it she might as well use it best she can. Just another tool in the arsenal, maybe not as good or effective as others, but it is something. | |

What exactly is "it" and to what good can it be used? I'm not sure how having people joke about wanting to fuck you is a "tool" or even an asset as a VP candidate. Joking about it is one thing but to say that it is "something" is pretty ghastly. I hope you were joking about that too.
