| So far today my computer has decided to fuck with me to no end.
It has been chain restarting itself and I'm typing this in a hurry to make sure I don't get shut off before I post it.
Basically the entire system shuts itself down about 5 mins after I get it up and running, sometimes less, almost enver more.
Theonly thing that has happened recently, last night i got the "your computer is in need of updates" message several times, and once I ignored it for too long and it shut me down and did its update thing, so I went to bed.
Logged on this morning and got a solid couple hours playing and no poblems, then it chain restarted itself like crazy.
The restart thing happened during Najentus once before, a while back.
I'm pretty much clueless as to what to do here.
Halp.
edit: i'll be able to check the forums from my phone for any input, but I won't be able to raid on friday if it doesnt get fixed. (WHICH MEANS SERAYNE IS PLAYING MY PALLY FOR MOTHER IN CASE THAT FUCKING NECK DROPS)

| It might be a virus, run a scan. If you find nothing I know there's a command to stop a virus like that from working, but you might have to reformate.

| It just completely turns off? No error screen or anything, just zap gone? Does it come back on automatically as if it were restarting or do you have to push the power button? Could be overheating if the later.
Or something got fucked while it was trying to do that update, if it's restarting automatically.
Probably want to check the system temps, you usually can in the BIOS or by downloading some software. I can't think of any off the top of my head right now though. If the update screwed something you'll have to repair or reinstall/format. I dunno how you could diagnose that though. The heat part is easy.

| yeah como, just zap its off and starts restarting by itself. New problem: it stayed on for a while after making that post but after a few minutes it wouldn't let me open any programs at all. No folders either, gave me a "is in use by another program" message. Makes me think its a virus and I'm going to have to reformat. Forgot to add, when windows does fire up and start working it always gives a "recovered from critical error" notification. | |

| Go see if Windows is set to automatically restart on an error, if yes, uncheck it. So if an error happens you will be able to see it. If there's no error it's either a virus or overheating.
1. Click Start and Open the Control Panel 2. Go to System and Maintenance, Click on System. 3. Select Advanced System Settings and choose Advance tab. 4. Under Startup and Recovery, click on Settings. 5. Under System failure uncheck Automatically restart.

| You could try a System Restore, but then again if its a virus that won't help, and you might not be able to keep your computer on long enough to actually get the Restore done.
My Solution: Hit it with a hammer

| My guess is a virus or an overheating CPU. If you can get into your BIOS (usually hit delete, F1, F2, F11, or F12 when booting) and see what your CPU temp is, right after it reboots, that could help diagnose it. | |

Or a shotgun, either one will do TBH just run the scans and do system restores until you can get it to work. Check the BIOS like PB said, too.

Virus. Get Avast or reformat if you were due for one anyway.

| I had this same problem where my computer would randomly restart and continue to restart several times by itself. It wasn't overheated and I tried reformatting it along with just about every other thing you could possibly try to fix it. The problem started around the time world of warcraft came out and continued until a few months ago when I got my new computer. That is literally how long I tried to fix it and never was able to, only reason I don't have that problem now is because I bought a new computer. I never actually took it to a professional or anything but my mom is a computer programmer and she tried to help me fix it and we were still unable to. Hope you don't have what I had because it is a pain in the ass.
Edit: Oh yeah, another thing is when we would reformat the computer works fine for a week or so before it starts to restart itself again.

| If issues like that persist through reformatting then its faulty hardware. (not to state the obvious) I would be willing to bet the temp was spiking, you ever replace your cpu/gpu/northbridge fans or heatsinks? Just because there is a cooling issue doesn't mean it will surface when you're looking at the temp in the bios. The system is hardly under load at that time so its a lot harder to detect sub-par cooling as opposed to broken cooling components. | |

| I did what Demoniack said, turned off auto restart, got blue screens of death all day. No Galt, I've never replaced any of that stuff. I guess I may have a heat issue. I'm probably gonna reformat, though I'm so hardware retarded I'm not sure how, guidance plx. | |

I was referring to Lyacine's problem, sorry. I'm still voting virus for yours, if its a heat issue then you should be able to put it under load and it restart every time. Heat issues won't keep programs from opening but a virus will. Even partially removed ones. I had all kinds of hell with a computer at the office where it would begin to open larger programs but they disappeared and ran in the background. No matter how many times I ran avast, adaware, spybot, house call I couldn't keep it clean and finally just threw in the towel with a reformat. fixed it right up.

| This happend to me not so long ago, I did that everytime I hadnt used it in 1-2 hrs. Pretty much if I stayed there and chain turned it on for about 15-20mins it would stay on with the intervals getting longer and longer between restarts.
Solution: Pretty much brought a brand new system bar a PSU and it STILL did it which blatently told me it was my PSU, I installed a spare PSU sam had and its going hard still. In a nutshell if you have another PSU around swap it out and give it a go should fix it if its what I think it is.

| My computer had a built in thermometer in the tray, it wasn't the heat. Faulty hardware, perhaps, but we have so many spare computer parts that we changed several in and out and still didnt fix the problem, but you don't have to try to fix my problem because I got a new computer that works fine. I was just letting secondary know what he may be in for. | |
