| Dogs:
- self-domesticated species - high degree of sociological assimilation, in part due to their instinctual group behaviorisms - poor immediate memory (like a goldfish with Alzheimer's), incredibly rich sensory memory
Cats:
- higher degree of fine muscle control - a much lesser part of their nature relies on instinct, most mannerisms developed through observation - very adept working and sensory memory
Winner: Cats

| Empirical evidence is denoted by being gained through experience, observation, or experiment. It is contrary to the theory of thought known as rationalism, which espouses introspection as the primacy of knowledge. Empirical data is commonly used in science due to its non-theoretical nature. | |

I think what Valsant was going for here is empirical as in "peer reviewed". Anyone can armchair philosophize their way out of criticism by citing unverifiable, unreproducible personal experience or original research. Hell, look at...well, every religion ever conceived. Or your favorite conspiracy theory. Having said that: http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/12/05/1700140.aspxI agree with the slant of this article that "smart" doesn't equal "better" any more than 4 legs is "better" than 2 legs or a protective slime coating is better than scales. It all depends on what your ancestors needed to accomplish. If the point is that we should feel more camaraderie with individually brainy animals, I think this article makes a reasonable case that cats fit the bill better than dogs. But then again, a herd of desert wildcats (from which all domestic breeds decend) never brought down a caribou...

| The things I cited have no correlation to personal experience and are documented scientific truths. I certainly wasn't around 12,000 years ago when the dog domesticated itself.
I do not think Vaslant's question asked whether or not one makes a better pet, rather, which animal is "smarter." If you really want something to sink your teeth into debate the merits and quantifiable properties of being "smarter."

Yea, you're a young'n. If you were 12,000 years old, you'd probably be a pile of sludge due to all of the genetic mutations that would take place due to environmental changes for starters. - grak wrote:

All I wanted to figure out was which would be easier to capture in large quantities to sell off to my local Chinese restaraunt, to be honest. The dumber, the better (ie - less work for maximum profit). But ty for the serious tone in this OTT thread; it really put the spunk back in my step this morning. Another debate topic if you are bored with that one... Which is better: Socialism or Anarchy? Pix are always a helpful tool when debating, btw; much like this one: ~ Sean

| If you want to round up animals for food, dogs are probably easier as they naturally run in packs. Establish yourself as pack leader and into the meat grinder they go! - Quote :

That's like asking "which is better: eating nothing for a year, or eating so much your stomach ruptures?" All things in moderation...

| So I'm going on a class field trip. I know right? I kind of laughed too when I heard. I haven't been on a class field trip in literally years. One small detail though... This field trip? Yeah it's to Marion. No biggy. | |

| Anarchy as long as you are a rich powerful diplomatic leader type. Well really just so you can form up your own form of government again to regain control in some way. So Anarchy probably follows a trend to turn into socialism or near to it and back into anarchy again.
Does this mean Anarchy is coming? Zyzzx I need your gun training asap.

| It was tested last year already. Some shit broke soon after and they had to slowly warm it up to fix it. Won't be running again for months b/c of the temperatures involved. | |
