PostSubject: Yes. We. Can.   Tue Nov 04, 2008 12:09 am

As promised, I have returned to you. I will first address the election, as I intend for its ongoing results to be discussed here.

Every major and minor indicator with one exception is now in favor of Obama. The pundits (nearly unanimously) say he will win with a minimum of 300 Electoral Votes. The math shows his leads to be virtually insurmountable. There is no candidate who has ever come back this far down on the last day and won. The Scholastic Kids poll (correct since 1968) picked Obama. The "Redskins Rule 2.0" picks Obama (Steelers won so the party that lost the last popular vote wins the current election). The 7-Eleven cups, the Halloween masks, all of it point to Obama. The sole exception is the Bake-Off where potential First Ladies submit a recipe to some mag and readers vote on it. Cindy McCain's recipe won, although the recipe appears to have been stolen.

But seriously, Obama will win this election. Yes, we can rise above the last eight years by rejecting another four (I realize McCain isn't identical to Bush, but his economic policies are virtually identical). Yes, we can take politics of slander (Wright, Ayers, Rezko, patriotism claims, outright lies, dirty campaigning) and throw them back in the face of Karl Rove's disciples. Yes, we can tell McCain, "You're a very funny guy, but you let your good name get soiled in the mud in a desperate attempt to win." Yes, we can elect Barack Obama to the White House. And tonight, we will be able to say, Yes, we did.

Down ballot, I doubt the Dems will take 58 seats. My guess is they go 57, including any possible Georgia run-off (I think Chambliss wins in either event). It's all just as good. Bush doesn't even need a majority to drum up support for his bills. I think Obama will have no trouble for the first two years with the opposing party (many of whom are running ads linking themselves to Obama to stay alive this season).

In California, the last three polls all show Prop 8 losing. It's close (probably 3-8 points), but the "gold" standard poll (Field) shows 44-49. Even SurveyUSA, which showed the Yes side up a few points earlier in the month has moved back to No, and at 50% for No. The last big poll, PPIC, showed a larger margin with No ahead. Voters tend to vote 'No' on props if they are undecided. I think the Sunday church services will drive some support back for Yes, but if the No votes hold, it should fail. Here's to hoping.

Finally, my previous denouncement thread, just my remarks.

Como and Malaese. I will agree that I over-reacted. But I still strongly disagree with keeping Shel around entirely based on his forum attitude and his admission of lying on his application.

Ichaerus, I freely argue with Shel on the forums. Note my former avatar, in red, still holding the inaugural post on this forum saying anything was legal here if it wasn't hateful. Shel's "nigger" comment, said in a hateful tone (not like Broms would say it, cuz Broms is black), is a clear violation. Further, he has admitted lying on his app. It's a serious matter of principles for me.

Korrash, Wax, and others from the past. Thanks for the support. You guys know where my head is even if my mouth spews off.

Rishana, I may not really be in the game anymore, but just like former world leaders hang around for advice, I try to be there as needed.

Six, look man. I have a lot of respect for your ability to play, but you left the guild and when you got the time to play again, you didn't come back. That bothers me a bit. No, you are not required to return, but it does hurt your credibility to say something bad happened to the guild regarding an issue you didn't have much input on. Secondary is hands-down the best holy paladin I have ever played with. He knows his job is to manage buffs and I have never heard him get angry at anybody for it (frustrated yes, but not angry). He never gets angry period. He hated Hyjal but would show up every single week for it. Secondary easily makes my personal list of top 5 players I am glad I invited to either DD or Dogma and I don't think it's fair to criticize him for your flawed viewpoint. You were good at the game, Six, but ultimately you left.

Oh, and the Rays lost.

To all: I'm sorry I over-reacted two weeks ago. I am still very upset with the leadership's handling of Shel and would still prefer to see him removed but the decision is not mine and I'll resign my input to simple advice.

Now let the discussion begin. Obama wins the first town to vote 15-6, second 17-10-2 (Ron Paul). Both towns have previously been reliably red.

The internet is for trolling. It has been since Al Gore invented it back in 2000.

If there was any degree of seriousness behind what Shel said, particularly about lying on his app, we might have considered taking action. The truth is that he said what he did to get a rise from people who read only this forum and no longer have any continuous online interaction with the guild. To my surprise, he succeeded.

Personally I don't really care what is said on these or any other public forum. I'm sorry that some of you were offended, but Shel continues to be a productive member of the guild both during raids and on the forums (just not this one).

I hope Obama wins. Palin makes me physically nauseous. The thought of her continuing to draw breath makes me question the existence of justice and goodness in the universe... and I consider myself right of center.

I'm also voting for Barack Obama tomorrow morning. I've been on his bandwagon for three years now, and I'm hoping to see him make it to the top.

Also voting for Al Franken in my local senatorial election because I can't stand Norm Coleman and that seat, Wellstone's seat, is a Democratic-Farmer-Labor party seat through and through and it belongs back in the hands of the DFL. Not that great a reason, I know, but Franken > Coleman for a lot of other reasons as well.

I'm expecting Barack will win the election. By just how much I'm not sure; undoubtedly by more than the Bush margins (1-2%) but less than the Reagan electoral map (go go blue Minnesota). I'd look for about 55-45, though. I'm eager to see how congress turns out; here's to hoping Michelle Bachmann gets ousted.

Are there any websites with a map doing updates throughout the day as reporting comes in?

I know most of the news organizations have online maps but I doubt you'll see any maps anywhere get colored early based on notoriously inaccurate exit polls. Projections for states will almost always happen after the state polls have closed. The first polls close at 6 PM EST (Some of Indiana and Kentucky), and some of the important ones close at 7 PM (including Virgina and much of Florida). Key here is that you could potentially sense the outcome if Obama wins Virgina AND it's called right after 7. If it's not called early, it probably means it's pretty close, and could signal a longer night.

I voted at 7 this morning. Jelly was 5th, I was 6th at our precinct. We both used an electronic machine.

Yeah I did some reading after I posted that. I find that incredibly boring. They should have real time tallying, interactive maps updated by the minute and some sort of cool graphical interface, but then I'm a gamer so...

Here's the NBC Widget that updates in "real time" but yeah, you won't see anything until 6 PM EST when Indiana and Kentucky polls start closing:

By the by...

I don't know if it's a national campaign or not, but down here if you have an "I Voted" sticker you can get free ice cream at Ben&Jerry's!

I think the entire idea of having concessions at polling places would be sheer genius, but this is a great first step. What kind of sicko doesn't like ice cream, regardless of your political affiliation?
